- Institute of Core Technology
- With the aim of building next-generation technologies for the Group's core businesses, Institute of Core Technology conducts a wide range of research, from materials development to application technology development, in the fields of information and communications, environment and energy, life sciences, and their boundary domains. Specifically, it focuses on the development of new polymer technologies that are expected to be applied in the security and healthcare fields; the development of inorganic materials to realize a highly reliable ICT society; and the development of energy capture and control technologies to help realize “Society 5.0” and an energy recycling and low-carbon society.
- Institute of Frontier Research
- With the aim of creating businesses in growth industries that will propel the Group‘s future growth, the Institute of Frontier Research is engaged in comprehensive development from research to business models in advanced technology fields.
Under the SIC-II mid-term management plan, the Laboratory is working on the development of sensing data solutions for the IoT/DX market, and cell culture systems and high-sensitivity imaging systems for the biotechnology market, including regenerative medicine and drug discovery screening. - Analysis Technology Laboratory
- The main objectives of the Analysis Technology Laboratory are to provide general analytical support to Group companies, evaluate compound safety, accumulate and utilize analysis technologies, and acquire new analysis technologies. In addition to physical properties, nanostructural analysis, and chemical composition analysis, the lab also conducts evaluation analysis of biological systems made up of cells and proteins, etc. In recent years, the lab has expanded its activities to include various informatics technologies, computational chemistry and image analysis in response to the digital transformation of R&D. It is promoting the spread of these technologies throughout the company's technical divisions.

- Process Innovation Laboratory
- We are working on production technology innovation with the aim of strengthening our manufacturing base. To develop innovative processes for synthesis, dispersion, and coating, which are the main production processes, we are conducting a wide range of research, from basic research on mechanism elucidation, molecular, crystal, and coating film structure control, and bioprocesses, to rational process design for industrialization. We are also working on the development of production monitoring systems that utilize data science and sensing technology to realize smart factories.

- Advanced Materials Development Laboratory
- The main mission of Toyocolor’s Advanced Materials Development Laboratory is to conduct medium-term R&D in the Colorants and Functional Materials segment of Toyo Ink Group’s operations. The lab is working on the development of materials and technologies that can lead the market as a top runner in the next-generation market of each business field. In addition to brushing up our core materials and core technologies, it is focusing on the acquisition of new materials while enthusiastically taking on new challenges such as conducting data sciences and materials informatics.

- Advanced Polymer R&D lab
- With the aim of developing new products and creating new businesses in the polymer processing segment, Toyochem’s Advanced Polymer R&D lab is working to create new polymer materials and elemental technologies that will be the source of product differentiation, by utilizing and synchronizing our core polymer synthesis and coating technologies. Specifically, the lab is working on the development of materials and tech for the information and communication, environment and energy, and life science fields and that offer key traits of high heat resistance, high durability, high adhesion, biodegradability and water solubility.

- Packaging Materials Laboratory
- Toyo Ink’s Packaging Materials Laboratory develops materials for next-generation products in the printing, information and packaging-related businesses. The lab is developing materials for environmentally friendly products that reduce carbon dioxide emissions, conserve resources and energy, and recycle plastics in response to the recent global warming and marine plastic problems, as well as electronic materials that enable the creation of printed circuit patterns. The lab continues to take on the challenge of innovation in manufacturing for the realization of a safer, more secure and sustainable society.
